A brutal greeting from Colombia, I am Ricardo Bedoya, director of the SCUMZINE MAGAZINE website. How was the band formed? How are things going in the band? And the ITALIAN scene?
M.O.: Hey Ricardo, thanks in advance for this interview. Well first of all the band was formed in 2019 by me and Morgan. After spending some months writing songs we've been joined by Michele on vocals and so the line-up was complete.
Things are currently going pretty good overall, we have two friends helping us on bass guitar and drums for upcoming live shows, but for the moment the stable line-up still consists of us three. I can't tell you that much about the italian scene, besides few italian bands I mostly listen to foreign metal bands.
1-We started talking about the EP “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”, How are you going with the distribution of this CD? And what was the response from fans and the press?
M.S.: Thank you for having us Ricardo, I think the label, or rather the labels, will take care of the distribution, because the record was pressed by an American company (New Standard Elite) and immediately after re-issued by a German company (Morbid Generation) . The response is pretty good until this point, gigs and festivals are approaching so we're definitely pretty excited about the upcoming venues.
1-Tell us, how did you get to NEW STANDARD ELITE? How are things going with distribution?
M.S.: I simply sent an email with a private link to listen to our music, to tell the truth I had already dealt with Daniel (old owner of the label) because of my other band Unbirth who had already released a record for NSE.
1-Tell us about the recording process of “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”. What was the musical composition process like? And what do the lyrics talk about?
M.O.: For songwriting we met in a rehearsal room and then created riffs on the spot, after that we put all the riffs together and so the songs were born. We still do this today for every new track.
M.S.: Honestly, I write everything that crosses my mind spontaneously, without having to think too much about what to write... I wrote the lyrics for the EP in one afternoon almost all in a row, and they almost all talk about torture , suffering, existential dramas... but with a more sophisticated refinement of terms, my trademark.
2-Where are the influences of INVERECUND, the name of the band? And why “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”?
M.S.: Obviously the entire Unique Leader roster from the early 2000s, you know what I'm referring to, right? I came up with the name of the EP by pure chance, I liked how it worked with the idea of the musical content.
M.O.: our influences mostly comes from old school bands like Gorgasm, Inveracity, Severed Savior and such
3-Tell us about the band's cover art, what was the creation process like?
M.S.: For the artwork we asked to the legendary Jon Zig, an artist who needs no introduction... we left him absolute freedom in developing the cover based solely on the track titles, as you can see he did an excellent job .
4-Any plan to make a promotional video
M.O.: we are not thinking about that for the moment, we are focusing on planning live shows , making new merchandise and preparing our full-length. But we don’t exclude that
5-Tell us about the Italian scene in Brutal Death Metal
M.S.: We're having such an amazing comebacks, Putridity, Vulvectomy, Sickening... I can't complain, the Italian scene is characterized by excellent bands. Barring a few exceptions...
6-What do you know about the Brutal scene in COLOMBIA and South America?
M.S.: Honestly, not much...I'm incredibly fan of the Brazilian death metal scene (Abhorrence, The Jokke, Horned God, Rebaelliun, Nephasth, Ophiolatry, The Ordher) that's it.
M.O.: The only band I know from Colombia is Internal Suffering. Apart from that I listen to Brazilian bands like Krisiun and others
7-Future plans, Complete new job. What can you tell us?
M.S.: We are working on a full-length, we have two new songs ready that we will perform during our live shows, stay focused!
8-Something you want to comment on.
M.S.: I want to make an exhortation to new bands and to all those who truly love death metal: buy physical records especially those from your local scene, don't pay to play and fuck off those who propose to do so, stay faithful to what you like to play without letting yourself be influenced by trends or what attracts the audience, finally the most important thing: HAVE FUN!

Un brutal saludo desde Colombia, soy Ricardo Bedoya director de la página web SCUMZINE MAGAZINE, ¿Cómo se formó la banda?, ¿Cómo van las cosas en la banda? Y ¿la escena ITALIANA?
M.O.: Hola Ricardo, gracias de antemano por esta entrevista. Bueno, en primer lugar, la banda la formamos en 2019 Morgan y yo. Después de pasar algunos meses escribiendo canciones, Michele se unió a nosotros en la voz. Y así la alineación quedó completa.
Actualmente las cosas van bastante bien en general, tenemos dos amigos que nos ayudan con el bajo y la batería para los próximos shows en vivo, pero por el momento la formación estable todavía está formada por nosotros tres.
No puedo contarte mucho sobre la escena italiana, además de algunas bandas italianas, escucho principalmente bandas de metal extranjeras.
Iniciamos hablando sobre el EP “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”, ¿Cómo van con la distribución de este CD? Y ¿Cuál fue la respuesta de los fans y la prensa?
M.S.: Gracias por invitarnos Ricardo, creo que el sello, o mejor dicho los sellos, se encargarán de distribución, porque el disco fue impreso por una empresa estadounidense (New Standard Elite) e inmediatamente después reeditado por una empresa alemana (Morbid Generation). La respuesta es bastante buena hasta este punto, los conciertos y festivales se acercan así que definitivamente estamos muy entusiasmados con los próximos lugares.
Cuéntanos, ¿cómo llegan a NEW STANDARD ELITE?, ¿Cómo van las cosas con la distribución?
Háblanos del proceso de grabación de “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”, ¿Cómo fue el proceso de composición musical? Y ¿de qué hablan las letras?
M.S.: Simplemente envié un correo electrónico con un enlace privado para escuchar nuestra música, a decir verdad ya había tratado con Daniel (antiguo dueño del sello) debido a mi otra banda, UNBIRTH, que ya había lanzado un disco para NSE.
Háblanos del proceso de grabación de “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”, ¿Cómo fue el proceso de composición musical? Y ¿de qué hablan las letras?
M.O.: Para escribir canciones nos reunimos en una sala de ensayo y luego creamos riffs en el acto, después de eso juntamos todos los riffs y así nacieron las canciones. Todavía hacemos esto hoy para cada nueva pista.
M.S.: Sinceramente, escribo todo lo que se me pasa por la cabeza de forma espontánea, sin tener que pensar mucho en qué escribir... Las letras del EP las escribí en una tarde casi todas seguidas, y casi todas hablan de tortura. Sufrimiento, dramas existenciales... pero con un refinamiento de términos más sofisticado, mi marca registrada.
De donde son las influencias de INVERECUND, ¿el nombre de la banda? Y ¿Por qué “ENGROSSED IN HORRIPILATION”?
M.S.: Obviamente, toda la lista de Unique Leader de principios de la década de 2000, sabes a qué me refiero, ¿verdad? El nombre del EP se me ocurrió por pura casualidad, me gustó cómo funcionaba con la idea del contenido musical.
M.O.: Nuestras influencias provienen principalmente de bandas de la vieja escuela como GORGASM, INVERACITY, SEVERED SAVIOR y demás.
Háblanos del cover art de la banda, ¿Cómo fue el proceso de creación?
M.S.: Para el arte le pedimos al legendario Jon Zig, un artista que no necesita presentación... le dejamos absoluta libertad para desarrollar la portada basándonos únicamente en los títulos de las canciones, como pueden ver hizo un excelente trabajo.
Algún plan para realizar un video promocional
M.O.: No estamos pensando en eso por el momento, nos estamos centrando en planificar shows en vivo, hacer nuevos productos y preparar nuestro largometraje. Pero no lo excluimos
Háblanos de la escena Italiana en Brutal Death Metal
M.S.: Estamos teniendo regresos increíbles, PUTRIDITY, VULVECTOMÍA, SICKENING... No me puedo quejar, la escena italiana se caracteriza por bandas excelentes. Salvo algunas excepciones...
Qué conoces de la escena Brutal de COLOMBIA y Sur américa
M.S.: Sinceramente, no mucho... Soy increíblemente fan de la escena del death metal brasileño (Abhorrence, The Jokke, Horned God, Rebaelliun, Nephasth, Ophiolatry, The Ordher), eso es todo.
M.O.: La única banda que conozco de Colombia es INTERNAL SUFFERING. Aparte de eso escucho bandas brasileñas como Krisiun y otras.
Planes futuros, Nuevo trabajo completo ¿Qué nos puedes decir?
M.S.: Estamos trabajando en un larga duración, tenemos dos canciones nuevas listas que interpretaremos durante nuestros shows en vivo, ¡manténganse enfocados!

M.S.: Quiero hacer una exhortación a las nuevas bandas y a todos aquellos que aman de verdad el death metal: compren discos físicos sobre todo los de su escena local, no paguen por tocar y que se jodan los que se propongan hacerlo, sean fieles a lo que te gusta jugar sin dejarte influenciar por las tendencias o lo que atrae al público, finalmente lo más importante: ¡DIVIÉRTETE!
