Here Ricardo Bedoya from SCUMZINE magazine, how is everything going in the band?

1 I think it's good to start talking about the new album "AFTERMATH", what do you think about the final result?

 

I’m so proud of the final work. We spent the last few years working on it and, despite the lineup changes within the band, we tried to do our best to craft something different from our previous album Atonement. I think the new one represents better our views on Death Metal and, even if our research is always going on, I love the result. Plus, the amazing artwork made by Jon Zig and the powerful master made by the legendary Joe Cincotta are something we’re really proud of.

 

2 What is the meaning of the title of the album "AFTERMATH"?

 

When I made the lyrical concept of the album, I had in mind two images: the first one was represented by the consequences of a terrible situation; the second one was the infamous short movie “Aftermath” by Nacho Cerda.

 

3 What is the message on the cover of "AFTERMATH"? and How fuel creation process with Jon Zig?

 

Aftermath is a concept albums divided in 3 chapters, with a focus on the grieving process within human relationships. We told Zig about the concept and he made this disturbing, bio-organic piece, composed of 3 human forms evolving towards more complex and painful stages.

 

4 How much time did you dedicate to writing and recording the album?

 

The writing sessions took a couple of years, and I tracked and mixed all the stuff within a month. As I stated earlier, the lineup changes within the band slowed down our writing process, but ultimately we succeeded in our purpose.

 

5 When will an official video of the band?

 

Honestly I don’t know! Never been into official videos to be honest. I mean, I like them but I never thought about making one for the band. We’ll discuss about it though, even if our priority is to gather our energies (we all have a full time work and, some of us, a family) to hit the road after a long period of abscence from the stages; and, of course, to write new songs for a new album as well.

 

6 What are the differences of the first album "ATONEMENT" AND "ATERMATH", related to lyrics and music?

 

Atonement is our second album, but the first one on Comatose Music. Our first album, Necrogenesis, was released by the Italian The Spew records back in 2010. I think that every work we had the chance to release is so different from the others and, in retrospective, all of them has cool ideas and flaws also. Between Atonement and Aftermath there’s an important difference in my opinion: while Atonement was a death metal album at its core, highly influenced by Hour Of Penance, Nile and Hate Eternal, Aftermath took a further step in the brutal death metal field. When we composed Aftermath we had clear what our influences were, but we unleashed our passion for Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, Defeated Sanity and Disgorge on one side, and for Gorguts, Spawn of Possession and Deathspell Omega on the other.

 

7 How are things going and the distribution with COMATOSE MUSIC? And how long did it take to get the contract with COMATOSE MUSIC?

 

Steve Green is an amazing guy and we are so proud to be on Comatose Music’s roster. We got in touch with Steve in 2012, he was enthusiast of the Atonement preprods and offered us a deal with Comatose. We couldn’t be more happy of his work and his support!

 

8 How was the response of your previous CD "ATONEMENT"?

 

It was absolutely great, probably even better than to our newest one. I’m still proud of the work we have done on that record, even if I wouldn’t write anything similar in the future.

 

9 Who are the main composers in LOGIC OF DENIAL?

 

I write the majority of our stuff along with our bass player Marcello, but since our second guitar player Marco joined the band we already planned to share the writing duties with him also. I write the lyrical concepts as well and all the riffs and structures come after we have figured out the imagery of the album. The arrangements come out as a collective work, and me and Marco take care of all the solo duties as well.

 

10 Tell us about the shows, what bands have you played with? and in what cities?

 

We had the chance and the honor to play some great shows in the past. Just to name a few, we supported Disgorge and Cryptopsy in Florence and we played some fests like Neurotic Deathfest and Antwerp Deathfest, along with killer bands like Centurian and Darkall Slaves. We also headlined some European mini-tours, sharing the stage with amazing bands and cool guys like our brothers in Hateful, Necrosis and Carnifloor.

 

 

11 Are you planning to record new material, could you give us something?

 

Absolutely! I already wrote a new concept, and the only thing I could say is that the new stuff will be more intricated than ever! It will be even different, and the stuff I came up with recently it’s something we dig a lot. Let’s see what will happen!

1 Creo que es bueno comenzar hablando del nuevo disco “AFTERMATH”, ¿Qué piensa usted sobre el resultado final?

 

Estoy muy orgulloso del último trabajo. Pasamos los últimos años trabajando en ello y, a pesar de los cambios en la alineación dentro de la banda, intentamos hacer todo lo posible para crear algo diferente a nuestro álbum anterior ATONEMENT. Creo que el nuevo representa mejor nuestros puntos de vista sobre Death Metal y, aunque nuestra investigación siempre está en marcha, me encanta el resultado. Además, la increíble obra de arte hecha por Jon Zig y el poderoso maestro hecho por el legendario Joe Cincotta es algo de lo que estamos muy orgullosos.

 

2 ¿Cuál es el significado que contiene el título del álbum “AFTERMATH”?

 

Cuando hice el concepto lírico del álbum, tuve en mente dos imágenes: la primera fue representada por las consecuencias de una situación terrible; el segundo fue el infame cortometraje "AFTERMATH" de Nacho Cerda.

3 ¿Cuál es el mensaje de la portada de “AFTERMATH”? y ¿Cómo fuel proceso de creación con Jon Zig?

 

AFTERMATH es un álbum conceptual dividido en 3 capítulos, con un enfoque en el proceso de duelo dentro de las relaciones humanas. Le dijimos a Zig sobre el concepto y él hizo esta pieza inquietante y bio-orgánica, compuesta de 3 formas humanas evolucionando hacia etapas más complejas y dolorosas.

 

4 ¿Cuánto tiempo le dedicaron a la escritura y grabación del álbum?

 

Las sesiones de escritura tomaron un par de años, y rastreé y mezclé todas las cosas en un mes. Como mencioné anteriormente, los cambios en la alineación dentro de la banda ralentizaron nuestro proceso de escritura, pero finalmente tuvimos éxito en nuestro propósito.

 

 

5 ¿Cuándo un video oficial de la banda?

 

¡Honestamente, no lo sé! Nunca he estado en videos oficiales para ser honesto. Quiero decir, me gustan, pero nunca pensé en hacer uno para la banda. Sin embargo, discutiremos sobre ello, incluso si nuestra prioridad es reunir nuestras energías (todos tenemos un trabajo de tiempo completo y, algunos de nosotros, una familia) para salir a la carretera después de un largo período de ausencia de las etapas; y, por supuesto, escribir nuevas canciones para un nuevo álbum también.

 

6 ¿Cuáles son las diferencias del primer álbum “ATONEMENT” Y “ATERMATH”, ¿relacionadas con las letras y la música?

 

ATONEMENT es nuestro segundo álbum, pero el primero en Comatose Music. Nuestro primer álbum, NECROGENESIS, fue lanzado por el italiano THE SPEW RECORDS en 2010. Creo que cada trabajo que tuvimos la oportunidad de lanzar es tan diferente de los demás y, en retrospectiva, todos ellos tienen ideas geniales y defectos también. Entre ATONEMENT y AFTERMATH hay una diferencia importante en mi opinión: mientras ATONEMENT era un álbum de death metal en su núcleo, altamente influenciado por HOUR OF PENANCE, NILE y HATE ETERNAL, AFTERMATH dio un paso más en el brutal campo de death metal. Cuando compusimos AFTERMATH, tuvimos claras nuestras influencias, pero desatamos nuestra pasión por SUFFOCATION, DEEDS OF FLESH, DEFEATED SANITY y DISGORGE por un lado, y por GORGUTS, SPAWN OF POSSESSION y DEATHSPELL OMEGA por el otro.

 

7 ¿Cómo van las cosas y la distribución con COMATOSE MUSIC? ¿Y cuánto tiempo tardó en obtener el contrato con COMATOSE MUSIC?

 

Steve Green es un tipo increíble y estamos muy orgullosos de formar parte de la lista de Comatose Music. Nos pusimos en contacto con Steve en 2012, estaba entusiasmado con los preprod de Expiación y nos ofreció un trato con Comatose. ¡No podríamos estar más contentos con su trabajo y su apoyo!

 

8 ¿Cómo fue la respuesta de su anterior CD “ATONEMENT”?

 

Fue absolutamente genial, probablemente incluso mejor que nuestro más nuevo. Todavía estoy orgulloso del trabajo que hemos hecho en ese registro, incluso si no escribiera algo similar en el futuro.

 

9 ¿Quiénes son los principales compositores en LOGIC OF DENIAL?

 

Escribo la mayoría de nuestras cosas junto con nuestro bajista Marcello, pero desde que nuestro segundo guitarrista Marco se unió a la banda, ya planeamos compartir las tareas de escritura con él también. Escribo los conceptos líricos también y todos los riffs y estructuras aparecen después de haber descubierto las imágenes del álbum. Los arreglos salen como un trabajo colectivo, y yo y Marco también nos ocupamos de todos los deberes solitarios.

 

10 Háblanos de los shows, ¿Con que bandas han tocado? y ¿en qué ciudades?

 

Tuvimos la oportunidad y el honor de tocar grandes shows en el pasado. Solo por nombrar algunos, apoyamos a DISGORGE y CRYPTOPSY en Florencia y tocamos algunos festivales como NEUROTIC DEATHFEST Y ANTWERP DEATHFEST, junto con bandas asesinas como CENTURIAN Y DARKALL SLAVES. también encabezamos algunas mini-giras europeas, compartiendo el escenario con bandas increíbles y geniales como nuestros hermanos en HATEFUL, NECROSIS y CARNIFLOOR.

 

11 Están planeando grabar nuevo material, ¿podría darnos algo?

 

¡Absolutamente! ¡Ya escribí un nuevo concepto, y lo único que puedo decir es que las cosas nuevas estarán más intrincadas que nunca! Será incluso diferente, y las cosas que se me ocurrió recientemente es algo que cavamos mucho. ¡Veamos que pasa!
