TELLURIC EFFLUVIUM
1 Let's start talking about how TELLURIC EFFLUVIUM was formed? What is the influence on the theme of the band's lyrics and philosophy?
Thank you, Ricardo. We appreciate you for taking the time to converse with us. Daniela and I share a passion for funeral doom, and our goal was to collaborate on a project that reflected our love for the style as well as to challenge ourselves creatively. Feri and Ibrahim excitedly offered their support in completing the linup. It’s a joy working with them, especially Ibahim, because he and I play in a variety of bands together. For us, Telluric Effluvium is an outlet for us in which we can experience the slow but consistent passing of our time on earth.
2 Tell us about the new album Dissolution of the Threefold Self, what formats is available?
The album Dissolution of the Threefold Self is available digitally on Bandcamp, on cassette in Asia through Hostile Records, on CD in Mexico through Vomit Records, on tape in Mexico through Cannibal Distro.
3 What is the meaning of the title Dissolution of the Threefold Self?
The threefold self is an example of our understanding of what it means to be a conscious being, divided into the body, mind, and spirit. This album questions how might the end of this trio be. What new light will be seen when darkness takes over?
4 How was the writing process for Dissolution of the Threefold Self? How much time did you spend writing and recording the album? How was the recording and mixing process going? And how is the experience of recording a professional work?
The album consists of one song divided into three parts only so that it may be uploaded to platforms like Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services due to the fact that they have a limit on how large a file can be. I wrote and recorded myself in a single day. The writing process felt as if it passed quickly because of the honest inspiration that led to completion. Daniela and I wrote the lyrics together, which took a couple of weeks to finish. It’s often exciting and very rewarding to work on and finalize projects like this.
5 Tell us about the illustration, what is your opinion about the cover? How was the creation process? And how was the construction of the logo with INHUMAR F CUENCA?
We commissioned our friend from Tommorow Ghost to create the artwork for the album, and we are happy to have collaborated with him. We were inspired by the sixteenth century piece Historia de la composición del cuerpo humano by Juan Valverde de Amusco, especially because it depicts someone who carries both the a knife and the skin they use to wear, which complements the lyrics. It was also nice to work with Inhumar again. He did the logo for one of my other bands, Monumental Discharge, which is of a quite different style of music. He did a job that pleased us very much, so much so that we actually missed an error in the original logo he made. I suppose it was understandable that he mispelled a word as neither telluric nor effluvium is common.
6 Tell us about the lyrics of Dissolution of the Threefold Self and What is the theme?
Daniela and I cowrote the lyrics, spending about two weeks organzing on a shared document. We knew we wanted to have tercets, with nine syllables per line. We further focused on the organization by dividing the lyrics into two mirrored but opposing sections. The opening stanza deals with the desire to see while abandoned in darkness, and the closing one interprets the joy of finding freedom in an extinguished light. The second, third, and fourth stanzas highlight some of the limitations of the body, mind, and spirit; the fifth, sixth, and seventh stanzas explore some of the more hopeful aspects of them.
7 Any interested record label?
We are fortunate to have the support of Hostile Records (Malaysia), Vomit Records (Mexico), and Cannibal Distro (Mexico), and we are always considering working with more people so that more people can access to physical copies of our work. There are so many wonderful record labels, but I can definitely mention some of my favorites: 20 Buck Spin, Profound Lore, Maggot Stomp, and Headsplit Records are just a few.
8 What do you know about the scene in Colombia?
I taught Spanish and Music in Santa Marta, Colombia in 2013. Lucky for me, one of my colleagues at the school had been involved in the Colombian metal scene since the 80s. He was from Medellín and introduced me to the classics: Parabellum, Blasfemia, and Masacre. Colombia like several of its South American neighbors has been pioneering what extreme metal can be for decades, and unfortunately not many people outside of there recognize it. One newer band I’d like to mention is Brainblast from Bogotá, who blend elements of technical and progressive death metal.
9 What is the scene like in Denver, Colorado? And how do you see the scene from DOOM METAL?
It feels good knowing that a local show could include bands like Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, Spectral Voice, Blood Incantation, Dreadnaught, Khemmis, Of Feather and Bone, and so many more. Each band mentioned definitely has at least some elements from doom metal, but they also synthesize into it something more unique and progressive.
10 Future plans (video / tours and others) and final comment?
We are excited to release the material onto physical formats, especially in areas often ignored by North American bands. Like every other band, plans for playing festivals have been cancelled for now; however, we look forward to potential festivals in Europe and North America as soon as they become possibilities. As always, we’re already writing new material for future releases.

- Gracias, Ricardo. Le agradecemos por tomarse el tiempo para conversar con nosotros. Daniela y yo compartimos la pasión por la fatalidad funeraria, y nuestro objetivo era colaborar en un proyecto que reflejaba nuestro amor por el estilo, así como desafiarnos a nosotros mismos creativamente. Feri e Ibrahim ofrecieron con entusiasmo su apoyo para completar el linup. Es un placer trabajar con ellos, especialmente con Ibahim, porque él y yo tocamos juntos en una variedad de bandas. Para nosotros, Teluric Effluvium es una salida para nosotros en la que podemos experimentar el paso lento pero constante de nuestro tiempo en la tierra.

- El yo triple es un ejemplo de nuestra comprensión de lo que significa ser un ser consciente, dividido en cuerpo, mente y espíritu. Este álbum cuestiona cómo podría ser el final de este trío. ¿Qué nueva luz se verá cuando la oscuridad se apodere?
4 ¿Cómo fue el proceso de redacción de Dissolution of the Threefold Self? ¿Cuánto tiempo pasaste escribiendo y grabando el álbum? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y mezcla? ¿Y cómo es la experiencia de grabar un trabajo profesional?
- El álbum consta de una canción dividida en tres partes únicamente para que pueda cargarse en plataformas como Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music y otros servicios de transmisión debido al hecho de que tienen un límite en el tamaño de un archivo. Me escribí y grabé en un solo día. El proceso de escritura se sintió como si hubiera pasado rápidamente debido a la inspiración honesta que lo llevó a su finalización. Daniela y yo escribimos la letra juntas, lo que tardó un par de semanas en terminar. A menudo, es emocionante y muy gratificante trabajar y finalizar proyectos como este.
5 Cuéntanos sobre la ilustración, ¿cuál es tu opinión sobre la portada? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de creación? ¿Y cómo fue la construcción del logo con INHUMAR F CUENCA?
- Encargamos a nuestro amigo de Tommorow Ghost que creara la obra de arte para el álbum, y estamos felices de haber colaborado con él. Nos inspiramos en la obra del siglo XVI Historia de la composición del cuerpo humano de Juan Valverde de Amusco, sobre todo porque representa a alguien que lleva tanto el cuchillo como la piel que solía llevar, que complementa la letra. También fue agradable volver a trabajar con Inhumar. Hizo el logo de una de mis otras bandas, Monumental Discharge, que es de un estilo de música bastante diferente. Hizo un trabajo que nos gustó mucho, tanto que de hecho nos perdimos un error en el logo original que hizo. Supongo que era comprensible que escribiera mal una palabra, ya que ni el telúrico ni el efluvio son comunes.
6 Cuéntanos sobre la letra de Dissolution of the Threefold Self y cuál es el tema?
- Daniela y yo coescribimos la letra y pasamos unas dos semanas organizando un documento compartido. Sabíamos que queríamos tener tercetos, con nueve sílabas por línea. Nos enfocamos más en la organización dividiendo la letra en dos secciones opuestas pero reflejadas. La estrofa inicial trata del deseo de ver abandonado en la oscuridad, y la estrofa final interpreta la alegría de encontrar la libertad en una luz apagada. La segunda, tercera y cuarta estrofas destacan algunas de las limitaciones del cuerpo, la mente y el espíritu; las estrofas quinta, sexta y séptima exploran algunos de los aspectos más esperanzadores de ellas.
7 ¿Algún sello discográfico interesado?
- Tenemos la suerte de contar con el apoyo de Hostile Records (Malasia), Vomit Records (México) y Cannibal Distro (México), y siempre estamos considerando trabajar con más personas para que más personas puedan acceder a copias físicas de nuestro trabajo. Hay tantos sellos discográficos maravillosos, pero definitivamente puedo mencionar algunos de mis favoritos: 20 Buck Spin, Profound Lore, Maggot Stomp y Headsplit Records son solo algunos.
8 ¿Qué sabes de la escena en Colombia?
- Enseñé español y música en Santa Marta, Colombia en 2013. Por suerte para mí, uno de mis compañeros de la escuela había estado involucrado en la escena del metal colombiano desde los años 80. Él era de Medellín y me introdujo a los clásicos: Parabellum, Blasfemia y Masacre. Colombia, al igual que varios de sus vecinos sudamericanos, ha sido pionera en lo que puede ser el metal extremo durante décadas y, desafortunadamente, no mucha gente fuera de allí lo reconoce. Una banda más nueva que me gustaría mencionar es Brainblast de Bogotá, que mezcla elementos de death metal técnico y progresivo.
9 ¿Cómo es la escena en Denver, Colorado? ¿Y cómo ves la escena de DOOM METAL?
- Se siente bien saber que un espectáculo local podría incluir bandas como Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, Spectral Voice, Blood Incantation, Dreadnaught, Khemmis, Of Feather and Bone, y muchas más. Cada banda mencionada definitivamente tiene al menos algunos elementos del doom metal, pero también sintetizan algo más único y progresivo.
10 ¿Planes futuros (video / tours y otros) y comentario final?
- Estamos emocionados de lanzar el material en formatos físicos, especialmente en áreas a menudo ignoradas por las bandas norteamericanas. Como cualquier otra banda, los planes para tocar en festivales han sido cancelados por ahora; sin embargo, esperamos posibles festivales en Europa y América del Norte tan pronto como se conviertan en posibilidades. Como siempre, ya estamos escribiendo material nuevo para lanzamientos futuros.
