STILLBIRTH is preparing to release a new album through a new record label, they are preparing to create a great leap, in festivals they continue their path doing a brutal job, editing a new name plate "Homo Deus", they tell us about their process and so on, about one of the best bands from Germany that mixes BRUTAL DEATH METAL / with some DEATH CORE.

Hi, this is Ricardo Bedoya, from SCUMZINE MAGAZINE WEB. How is everything in the band? How was the band formed? and what is the story?
Hey Ricardo, thanks for getting in touch with us. My Name is Lukas Swiaczny and I am the vocalist and founder of the german brutal surf death metal Band Stillbirth.
I founded the band in 1999 and since than we played a lot of shows around the world (sadly not in south america till now). Since i was 10 years old, I always wanted to have a band. With 13 years I started my first side hustle to get some money together for a guitar and an amp and I found some guys who also wanted to do music and started Stillbirth in a small village in Germany.
We were always pretty party and summer vibes related. thats why we were dressing in hawaiian outfits since the beginning of the band. Stillbirth now stands for mercyless brutality and we are stronger than ever with the current lineup.
Tell us a bit about the new work “HOMO DEUS”
"Homo Deus" is a concept Album and the lyrical theme starts where our previous Unique Leader Records releases „Revive the Throne“ and "Strain of Gods" ended.
Humanity is slowly recovering from being on the brink of extinction after the big fallout on "Annihilation of Mankind". More and more people forget how hard the reconstruction was and how much suffering had to be endured. The greed for profit and the striving for power causes mankind to exploit the planet to the maximum. The garbage piles up to the sky and tales of clean water can only be taken from the remaining books. But mankind strives for more and does not become saturated, although it lives in abundance. This behavior is not tolerable and the true creator shows his face to cancel the project "humanity". That’s the little story about Homo Deus.
“HOMO DEUS” How was the process of composing the songs in this work? And how was the recording process at DEMIGOD RECORDINGS studios? and what is the story
We have always followed the "DIY" way of working and did the same with the album "Homo Deus". We recorded the guitars, bass and vocals at home in our home studios. For the drums we went to Cologne (City in West Germany) to record with Whiteroom Studios. We then sent our finished recordings to Demigod and Miguel did the mix and master of this record.
We started working on "Homo Deus" right after the release of "Strain of Gods" (our EP from 2021) and were busy composing and writing the songs until just before the deadline. So the whole process took about a year.
How do I compose in STILLBIRTH? Who are the main composers in STILLBIRTH? And what is the theme of the band?
I (Lukas S.) am responsible for writing the songs in Stillbirth. Like all the albums before, I wrote about 95% of the songs on "Homo Deus". My process has become more and more efficient over the years. I first write down the lyrics in German and don't pay attention to patterns or rhymes. It's mostly a rudimentary paraphrase of what's going to happen in the song later. Based on the story, I write a script for each song and determine how the whole song should be structured. For example song 1 should start with guitars, fast riff, the drums start with chinas and before everyone plays together in a slam there is a vocal break. And I do that for every part and every song. Then I write the riffs. Since I have a certain basic atmosphere through the scripts, it helps me find the right riffs. I write the whole song on guitar in a basic framework. Then I pre-write the drums in a rudimentary way as well and fine tune all the riffs again, so that there is always variety in the sounds and then I adjust the drums. The prescribed lyrics are adapted to the songs in the next step and brought into the right patterns. That's basically the writing process at Stillbirth. Every now and then the string section sends me some riffs and I try to integrate them into the songs.
What is the history of the cover art of “HOMO DEUS”? And how was the creation process AGHY R. PURAKUSUMA?
Aghy is one of the best cover designers today in my eyes. He not only has different styles, but he also realizes every single detail that I throw at his feet. So far, the end results have always been better than the expectations.
We also started working on the cover right after the release of "Strain of Gods". Aghy needs 150-200 hours for our covers, so it's always good to plan more time. This time we chose a super wide landscape version, so we can show even more scenarios and details. The cover combines new elements with things you already knew from the last covers. This creates a symbiosis and you can see that the concept trilogy is coming to an end.
Tell us about the reason for working with DISTORTION MUSIC GROUP, and do you continue with UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS?
As already told at the beginning, we have always liked to work according to the "DIY" method. We like to have freedom in designing the release. An important factor is also the rights to the music. Distortion Music Group offers us this freedom and the rights to our music remain completely in our possession. It feels a bit like a self-release but with a very strong partner in the background. Maurizio (Kataklysm, Ex Deo, Invictus), the owner of Distortion Music, is a veteran in the death metal universe and his expertise helps us in many ways. We will see what comes out in the end but we are confident that we have the right partner on our side with Distortion Music.
How was the distribution with UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS?, the response of the fans and the extreme press “ANNIHILATION OF MANKIND”, “BACK TO THE STONED AGE”, “REVIVE THE THRONE” AND “STRAIN OF GODS”.
We contributed Unique Leader Records in 2017 and unfortunately had to witness the death of Erik a short time later. We have released "Annihilation of Mankind", "Revive the Throne" and "Strain of Gods" with Unique Leader Records. "Back to the Stoned Age" was a self-release with some help from "Rotten Roll Rex" from Germany. Since the release of Annihilation of Mankind our fanbase has grown a lot, which of course makes us very happy. We are grateful to Unique Leader for all the work and push they have given us. They played a big part in getting our last albums into the ears of potential listeners.
We appreciate all reviews, whether positive or negative and we have learned a lot from the reviews and fan feedback on "Endgame is Near" and "Global Error" to release even better music. The opinions of our fans are important to us and we read every comment and look at every story in which we are mentioned. We love our fans because they are the reason why we are where we are today. Some of our fans have been with us since the beginning, and they still attend our concerts with their children in their arms.
Tell us about the following videos “STRAIN OF GODS”, “YOU CAN`T KILL US” AND “REVIVE THE THRONE”.
We filmed the music video for 'Revive the Throne' at Helvete Metal Pub, which is our 'Local Hero Venue' where we play multiple times a year. It's a really cool place. During the lockdown, everything was closed in Germany, so we were able to film our music video undisturbed at Helvete. Sebastian Blesel (our photographer) filmed it, and I edited it and sent it to Mariel Luis in Spain. She handles all of our digital video work. Mariel added some visual effects to the video and it was finished.
'You Can't Kill Us' is a completely digital video and we also worked with Mariel on this one. As with the video for 'Panem Et Circencess,' she took the cover artwork from 'Strain of Gods' and created a story based on the contents of the cover. We used the same process for our first new single, 'Autonomous Eradication,' which will be released on February 24, 2023.
For 'Strain of Gods,' we met us at our photographer’s (Sebastian Blesel) studio and filmed a 'Last Supper' story in front of a green screen. It was a lot of fun, and we couldn't imagine how the video would look like with effects and everything. Mariel received the green screen footage and turned it into the video we know today. Unfortunately, this was also one of the last opportunities to do something with our deceased bassist, Dominik Pumpa König.
Tell us about the expectations of participating in METALDAYS
We have never played at Metal Days before, but we are looking forward to inaugurate the new location. Every year we hear reports from our friends about how great Metal Days is and this year we can finally experience it for ourselves. We are looking forward to many conversations with our old and hopefully new fans. This week is going to be pretty exciting because we are playing at three major festivals. Starting with the Stonehenge Festival in the Netherlands, then we're off to Metal Days in Slovenia, and then we'll be driving back to Dortmund to play at Dortmund Deathfest.
What can you tell us about the shows, how do you define it? And with which bands have you shared stages?
Normally, we are a very active live band. The Corona years of 2020 and 2021 hit us hard and with over 100 cancelled shows it was a long time of waiting. Usually we play between 50-100 shows per year. In 2018, in addition to a European tour, we also had an Asia tour, and we saw many new countries. Overall, we have already played in 35 countries and hope to add a few more in the coming years. Our shows are always very energetic and encourage the audience to headbang or mosh. With our trademark Hawaiian shorts, we stand out on stage and people can't resist the urge to get into the pit.
Having played over 1000 shows in our career, we have shared the stage with many bands. A small selection would be Cannibal Corpse, Waking the Cadaver, Kataklysm, Guttural Secrete, Gutalax, Misery Index, Dying Fetus, Aborted, Rotten Sound, Wormrot, and many more.
What do you know about the Colombian scene? and tell us a little about the scene in Germany and Europe
We have a few friends who have close connections to Colombia, such as the guys from Vulvectomy or Carnivore Diprosopus. But we don't know much about the whole scene in Colombia or South America, except that the scene is crazy. We have set ourselves the goal of doing a South America tour in the next few years, so we can finally experience the spirit that we only hear about in stories from other bands.
The scene in Germany and Europe is slowly getting stronger. Germany has always been a great country for death metal, but other countries are catching up faster and faster. We prefer to tour in Germany, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, but all other countries are worth a visit as well.

Hola Ricardo, gracias por ponerte en contacto con nosotros. Mi nombre es Lukas Swiaczny y soy el vocalista y fundador de la banda alemana de brutal surf death metal Stillbirth.
Fundé la banda en 1999 y desde entonces tocamos en muchos shows alrededor del mundo (lamentablemente no en Sudamérica hasta ahora). Desde que tenía 10 años, siempre quise tener una banda. Con 13 años comencé mi primer trabajo secundario para juntar algo de dinero para una guitarra y un amplificador y encontré a algunos tipos que también querían hacer música y comencé Stillbirth en un pequeño pueblo de Alemania.
Siempre estuvimos bastante relacionados con las fiestas y las vibraciones veraniegas. Es por eso que nos vestíamos con trajes hawaianos desde el comienzo de la banda. Stillbirth ahora representa brutalidad despiadada y somos más fuertes que nunca con la alineación actual.
Cuéntanos un poco sobre el nuevo trabajo “HOMO DEUS”
"HOMO DEUS" es un álbum conceptual y el tema lírico comienza donde terminaron nuestros lanzamientos anteriores de UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS "REVIVE THE THRONE" Y "STRAIN OF GODS".
La humanidad se está recuperando lentamente de estar al borde de la extinción después de las grandes consecuencias de "ANNIHILATION OF MANKIND". Cada vez más personas olvidan lo dura que fue la reconstrucción y cuánto sufrimiento hubo que soportar. La avidez de ganancias y la lucha por el poder hacen que la humanidad explote al máximo el planeta. La basura se amontona hasta el cielo y las historias de agua limpia solo se pueden sacar de los libros restantes. Pero la humanidad se esfuerza por más y no se satura, aunque vive en la abundancia. Este comportamiento no es tolerable y el verdadero creador da la cara para cancelar el proyecto " HUMANITY ". Esa es la pequeña historia sobre el HOMO DEUS.
“HOMO DEUS” ¿Cómo fue el proceso de composición de las canciones de este trabajo? ¿Y cómo fue el proceso de grabación en los estudios DEMIGOD RECORDINGS? y cuál es la historia
Siempre hemos seguido la forma de trabajar "DIY" e hicimos lo mismo con el disco "Homo Deus". Grabamos las guitarras, el bajo y las voces en casa en nuestros estudios caseros. Para la batería fuimos a Cologne (Ciudad en Alemania Occidental) para grabar con Whiteroom Studios. Luego enviamos nuestras grabaciones terminadas a Demigod y Miguel hizo la mezcla y masterización de este disco.
Empezamos a trabajar en "Homo Deus" justo después del lanzamiento de "Strain of Gods" (nuestro EP de 2021) y estuvimos ocupados componiendo y escribiendo las canciones hasta justo antes de la fecha límite. Así que todo el proceso tomó alrededor de un año.
¿Cómo componen en STILLBIRTH? ¿Quiénes son los principales compositores de STILLBIRTH? ¿Y cuál es el tema de la banda?
Yo (Lukas S.) soy responsable de escribir las canciones de Stillbirth. Como todos los álbumes anteriores, escribí alrededor del 95% de las canciones en "HOMO DEUS". Mi proceso se ha vuelto cada vez más eficiente a lo largo de los años. Primero escribo las letras en alemán y no presto atención a patrones o rimas. Es sobre todo una paráfrasis rudimentaria de lo que va a pasar en la canción más adelante. Basándome en la historia, escribo un guion para cada canción y determino cómo debe estructurarse toda la canción. Por ejemplo, la canción 1 debe comenzar con guitarras, riff rápido, la batería comienza con porcelanas y antes de que todos toquen juntos en un slam, hay una pausa vocal. Y hago eso para cada parte y cada canción. Luego escribo los riffs. Dado que tengo una cierta atmósfera básica a través de los guiones, me ayuda a encontrar los riffs correctos. Escribo toda la canción en guitarra en un marco básico. Luego escribo previamente la batería de una manera rudimentaria también y afino todos los riffs nuevamente, para que siempre haya variedad en los sonidos y luego ajusto la batería. Las letras prescritas se adaptan a las canciones en el siguiente paso y se llevan a los patrones correctos. Ese es básicamente el proceso de escritura en Stillbirth. De vez en cuando la sección de cuerdas me envía algunos riffs y trato de integrarlos en las canciones.
¿Cuál es la historia de la portada de “HOMO DEUS”? ¿Y cómo fue el proceso de creación de AGHY R. PURAKUSUMA?
Aghy es uno de los mejores diseñadores de portadas de la actualidad a mis ojos. No solo tiene diferentes estilos, sino que también se da cuenta de cada detalle que le tiro a los pies. Hasta ahora, los resultados finales siempre han sido mejores que las expectativas.
También comenzamos a trabajar en la portada justo después del lanzamiento de "Strain of Gods". Aghy necesita entre 150 y 200 horas para nuestras coberturas, por lo que siempre es bueno planificar más tiempo. Esta vez elegimos una versión apaisada súper ancha, para que podamos mostrar aún más escenarios y detalles. La portada combina elementos nuevos con cosas que ya sabías de las últimas portadas. Esto crea una simbiosis y puedes ver que la trilogía de conceptos está llegando a su fin.
Cuéntanos cuál es el motivo de trabajar con DISTORTION MUSIC GROUP, y ¿sigues con UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS?
Como ya dijimos al principio, siempre nos ha gustado trabajar según el método "DIY". Nos gusta tener libertad en el diseño del lanzamiento. Un factor importante son también los derechos de la música. Distortion Music Group nos ofrece esta libertad y los derechos de nuestra música permanecen completamente en nuestra posesión. Se siente un poco como un auto-lanzamiento pero con un compañero muy fuerte en el fondo. Maurizio (Kataklysm, Ex Deo, Invictus), el propietario de Distortion Music, es un veterano en el universo del death metal y su experiencia nos ayuda de muchas maneras. Veremos qué sale al final, pero estamos seguros de que tenemos al socio adecuado de nuestro lado con Distortion Music.
¿Cómo fue la distribución con UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS?, la respuesta de los fans y la prensa extrema “ANNIHILATION OF MANKIND”, “BACK TO THE STONED AGE”, “REVIVE THE THRONE” Y “STRAIN OF GODS”.
Contribuimos con Unique Leader Records en 2017 y lamentablemente tuvimos que presenciar la muerte de Erik poco tiempo después. Hemos lanzado "ANNIHILATION OF MANKIND", "REVIVE THE THRONE" y "STRAIN OF GODS" con Unique Leader Records. "BACK TO THE STONED AGE" fue un autoedición con la ayuda de "ROTTEN ROLL REX" de Alemania. Desde el lanzamiento de ANNIHILATION OF MANKIND, nuestra base de fans ha crecido mucho, lo que por supuesto nos hace muy felices. Agradecemos a Unique Leader todo el trabajo y empuje que nos ha dado. Jugaron un papel importante para que nuestros últimos álbumes llegaran a los oídos de los posibles oyentes.

Cuéntanos acerca de los siguientes videos “STRAIN OF GODS”, “YOU CAN`T KILL US” AND “REVIVE THE THRONE”.
Filmamos el video musical de 'REVIVE THE THRONE' en HELVETE METAL PUB, que es nuestro 'Local Hero Venue' donde tocamos varias veces al año. Es un lugar realmente genial. Durante el confinamiento, todo estuvo cerrado en Alemania, por lo que pudimos filmar nuestro video musical sin interrupciones en Helvete. Sebastian Blesel (nuestro fotógrafo) lo filmó, yo lo edité y lo envié a Mariel Luis en España. Ella maneja todo nuestro trabajo de video digital. Mariel le agregó algunos efectos visuales al video y quedó terminado.
'YOU CAN'T KILL US' es un video completamente digital y también trabajamos con Mariel en este. Al igual que con el video de 'PANEM ET CIRCENCESS', tomó la portada de 'STRAIN OF GODS' y creó una historia basada en el contenido de la portada. Utilizamos el mismo proceso para nuestro primer sencillo nuevo, 'Erradicación autónoma', que se lanzará el 24 de febrero de 2023.
Para 'STRAIN OF GODS', nos encontramos en el estudio de nuestro fotógrafo (Sebastian Blesel) y filmamos una historia de 'La última cena' frente a una pantalla verde. Fue muy divertido y no podíamos imaginar cómo se vería el video con efectos y todo. Mariel recibió la grabación en pantalla verde y la convirtió en el video que conocemos hoy. Desafortunadamente, esta también fue una de las últimas oportunidades de hacer algo con nuestro bajista fallecido, Dominik Pumpa König.
Cuéntanos sobre las expectativas de participar en METALDAYS
Nunca antes habíamos tocado en Metal Days, pero estamos ansiosos por inaugurar la nueva ubicación. Todos los años escuchamos informes de nuestros amigos sobre lo genial que es Metal Days y este año finalmente podemos experimentarlo por nosotros mismos. Esperamos muchas conversaciones con nuestros antiguos y, con suerte, nuevos fans. Esta semana va a ser muy emocionante porque tocaremos en tres festivales importantes. Comenzando con el Festival de Stonehenge en los Países Bajos, luego iremos a los Días del Metal en Eslovenia, y luego regresaremos a Dortmund para tocar en el Dortmund Deathfest.
¿Qué nos puedes decir de los espectáculos, cómo los defines? Y ¿con qué bandas has compartido escenario?
Normalmente, somos una banda en vivo muy activa. The Corona de 2020 y 2021 nos golpearon duro y con más de 100 programas cancelados, fue un largo tiempo de espera. Usualmente tocamos entre 50 y 100 shows por año. En 2018, además de una gira europea, también tuvimos una gira por Asia y vimos muchos países nuevos. En general, ya hemos tocado en 35 países y esperamos agregar algunos más en los próximos años. Nuestros espectáculos son siempre muy enérgicos y alientan a la audiencia a hacer headbanging o mosh. Con nuestros característicos shorts hawaianos, destacamos en el escenario y la gente no puede resistir la tentación de meterse en el foso.
Habiendo tocado más de 1000 shows en nuestra carrera, hemos compartido escenario con muchas bandas. Una pequeña selección sería CANNIBAL CORPSE, WAKING THE CADAVER, KATAKLYSM, GUTTURAL SECRETE, GUTALAX, MISERY INDEX, DYING FETUS, ABORTED, ROTTEN SOUND, WORMROT y muchos más.
¿Qué sabes de la escena colombiana? y cuéntanos un poco sobre la escena en Alemania y Europa
Tenemos algunos amigos que tienen conexiones cercanas con Colombia, como los muchachos de Vulvectomy o Carnivore Diprosopus. Pero no sabemos mucho sobre toda la escena en Colombia o Sudamérica, excepto que la escena es una locura. Nos hemos fijado el objetivo de hacer una gira por América del Sur en los próximos años, para que finalmente podamos experimentar el espíritu que solo escuchamos en las historias de otras bandas.
La escena en Alemania y Europa se está fortaleciendo lentamente. Alemania siempre ha sido un gran país para el death metal, pero otros países se están poniendo al día cada vez más rápido. Preferimos viajar por Alemania, Suiza y la República Checa, pero todos los demás países también merecen una visita.
¿Algo que quieras agregar, comentario final?
Gracias por tener esta entrevista con nosotros. Siempre estamos felices cuando nuevas personas descubren y disfrutan de nuestra música.
