Riffs dense, filled with hate, speed, chaotic, classics and some slam, POST MORTAL POSSESSION, is one of the best bands of the American scene, now through the stamp disquero LORD OF THE SICK RECORDINGS released their second plate with this label which is named "CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM", they tell us about all material, so read this interview.
Here Ricardo Bedoya, from the magazine SCUMZINE MAG, How are things in the band?
Things are great! We are about to release one of our heaviest albums to date. since we wrapped up recording with “Catacombs of Bedlam”in March of 2019. We’ve been writing for the next album. a lot of cool things are in the works for us in 2020. Glad everyone is excited for this release.
1 How was the band formed? And why the name POST MORTAL POSSESSION?
PMP was formed in 2013. Jake (Guitarist) and Nick (drummer) started to jam after their other band “Dead by Dawn” disbanded. Brian (Guitarist) was brought in shortly after. they began to develop a brutal sound and brought on Ed ( Ex-vocals) to fill the frontman spot and adding Tim (Ex-bassist) completing the line. Then I joined in early 2017 to be the vocalist now.
The name just happen to come about. when it was tossed around between members. Ed ended up finally giving the project a name. I don't think there is a meaning behind it. probably, just “That's a cool name”.
2 Let's start the interview by talking about the new CD “CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM”, what do you think about the final result?
We are very happy with the final result. Since we released “Perpetual Decent” in November 2018. Our mission was to find a sound that worked for us as a whole. Really pushing everyone to really step it up and continue to progress. Perpetual Decent was a great record and my first time recording vocals for it. But, were we happy with that sound? not really. it's a great album. all of us just knew we could do better and release something that we would be 100% happy with . So this time around we worked hard on the new material. basically, not playing shows or touring. Focusing on writing a great album;that best represented this band and what the future holds for this death machine.
3 How was the recording and mixing process in CEREBRAL AUDIO PRODUCTIONS studios? And how long have you been writing and recording the album?
Very smooth. Shane ( Cerebral Audio) has been with us since the beginning. He recording our first album in his basement; to this one recorded in his professional home studio. Shane has become another member of the band. We discuss our vision and he really creates it.
We started writing in 2018. Brian came to practice with a couple riffs and than Jake came with a song. next thing you know we have 4 songs already. writing is really comes easy to us. all of us have been friends for a while and just know what everyone likes and doesn't. there's gotta be compromise.
4 What does the cover art of “CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM” mean? And how was the creation process with JONAS DERO’S ART?
When we decided on the concept of the album. Nick and I talked about what we had in mind for a cover. Weeks of sending pictures of asylums,paintings of mental patients and ideas back and forth. We didn't want to have an album cover full of dead bodies or some swamp monster. It had to really capture the listener visually too. Covers are very important. A good cover can grab a listener without even hearing the music. So within a couple months with no success and getting frustrating. I happen to stumble upon Jonas DeRO’s art. I found his painting called “The House of Spikes”. we all new that was the album cover. I contacted Jonas and i didnt even think he would respond.
A day later, he responded and we bought the rights to the art.
5 What is the meaning of the title? And what is the theme of the CD?
Catacombs of Bedlam came about when the concept was decided. It represented the entire atmosphere of the album. everything from the music,the artwork and lyrical content. The title is a portrayal of all the victims that lost their lives within these institutions. the mistreated and forgotten.
the music is dark, Gloomy and heavy. So I wanted the lyrical content to match the intensity of the music. Mental Institutions are terrifying and give you that feeling of death and despair. I felt that would be the best fit lyrically for the album.
6 Tell us how things are with the distribution of the press with the previous album "PERPETUAL DESCENT" ?, the response of fans and extreme press ?, How are things going in distribution with the seal LORD OF THE SICK RECORDINGS? And how do you get to the ranks of LORD OF THE SICK RECORDINGS?
The response was very good. everyone seemed to be enjoying the music we put our.perpetual decent was a good album. we felt it would get listeners from old school death metal audience to the brutal death metal audiences. When we got done recording. our search for a label to release it began. Max from lord of the sick asked us to send him a track. he signed us and is our biggest supporter. It's crazy to see people from across the world purchase your CD or wearing your merch. Lord of the sick made this possible for us and we want to continue to put out great things through them.
7 2019 was a good year in concerts, how was the experience with VITALS REMAINS & NILE ?, STEEL CITY SLAMFEST 2019? And what can you tell us about this 2020, in front of the concerts?
Vital Remains are always great live and to play with. Nile is one of those bands that you just have to go see. we have been lucky and played with them twice. Steel City Slamfest is always amazing. we enjoy not only playing it. but, we love putting it together. it's special to introduce the scene to a lot of underground bands. they might have ever heard before or seen live. each year it gets bigger and bigger.
2020 is going to be busy for us. we would like to book some tours and go out west, definitely wanna get over to europe and asia. new merch designs will be added to our site. hopefully start recording the next album.
8 How is the scene of PITTSBURGH, PA?
Pittsburgh has an okay scene. In the late 80s and 90s it was more thriving. it wasn't oversaturated with the same 6 bands. the death metal scene is small. but, strong. that's why slamfest is important. we are trying to build the scene backup. supporting each other and the underground.
9 Tell us about “FOREST OF THE DAMNED”?
it was released in 2016 and really put us on the map. so be on the look out for a re-released.
10 What is a POST MORTAL POSSESSION concert like?
A PMP concert is an experience in itself. the energy we bring is addictive. beers are flying and bodies are smashing. everyone is having a great time. we just want everyone to have fun and feel like they got a great show. we like to be as scary as our music is.
11 How is the musical composition?
most of us practice at home and work on new things. if you have something. you present it at practice. from their we add to it or morph around other riffs. creating something unique. our guitarist work very well together and our drummer adapts to anything.I try to just get my vocal patterns than i add lyrics. we practice onces a week for 2 hours. but, when we get together we work non stop.
12 Which artists do I invite in this musical work of POST MORTAL POSSESSION?
We are a very versatile band. we have listeners that like clean cut death metal or those who love slam. any fan of extreme music will be a fan.
13 How do you perceive the BRUTAL DEATH METAL world scene?
Man, the BDM scene is still flourishing. it's gotten better over the years. Really thankful for the internet. it has really connected a lot of people within the scene.that probably would have never met. trading shirts,Cd’s and discussing old and up in coming albums. but, it is one of the most supportive scenes. I've really met some of the nicest people within this scene. Im very happy to be apart of this scene. I will always continue to support my friends and the underground.
14 What do you know about the scene in Colombia
The colombian scene has always been strong. Some of the most amazing bands have come out of colombia. some of my favorites are Amputated Genitals, Suppuration,Mindly rotten, Carnivore Diprosopus and Melting Flesh.
Purulent was favorite though. absolute legends.
15 Future plans (video / tours and others) and final comment
we are planning on releasing a video for one of our single from the new album. once the album is released. we will start booking tours and more shows. also, be on the lookout for new merchandise too.

¡Las cosas son geniales! Estamos a punto de lanzar uno de nuestros álbumes más pesados hasta la fecha. Desde que terminamos la grabación con "CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM" en marzo de 2019. Hemos estado escribiendo para el próximo álbum. Se están preparando muchas cosas interesantes para nosotros en 2020. Me alegra que todos estén entusiasmados con este lanzamiento.
1 ¿Cómo se formó la banda? Y ¿por qué el nombre POST MORTAL POSSESSION?
PMP se formó en 2013. Jake (guitarrista) y Nick (batería) comenzaron a tocar después de que su otra banda "DEAD BY DAWN" se disolviera. Brian (Guitarrista) fue traído poco después. Comenzaron a desarrollar un sonido brutal y trajeron a Ed (Ex-vocalista) para llenar el lugar de líder y agregar a Tim (Ex-bajista) completando la línea. Luego me uní a principios de 2017 para ser el vocalista ahora.
2 Comencemos la entrevista hablando del nuevo CD “CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM”, ¿qué opinas sobre el resultado final?
Estamos muy contentos con el resultado final. Desde que lanzamos "Perpetual Decent" en noviembre de 2018. Nuestra misión era encontrar un sonido que funcionara para todos nosotros. Realmente empujando a todos a intensificarlo y continuar progresando. Perpetual Decent fue un gran disco y la primera vez que grabé voces para él. Pero, ¿estábamos contentos con ese sonido? realmente no. Es un gran álbum. Todos sabíamos que podíamos hacerlo mejor y lanzar algo con lo que estaríamos 100% contentos. Así que esta vez trabajamos duro en el nuevo material. Básicamente, no tocar shows o giras. Centrándose en escribir un gran álbum; que mejor representaba a esta banda y lo que depara el futuro para esta máquina de la muerte.
3 ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y mezcla en los estudios CEREBRAL AUDIO PRODUCTIONS? ¿Y cuánto tiempo llevas escribiendo y grabando el álbum?
Muy suave. Shane (Cerebral Audio) ha estado con nosotros desde el principio. Grabó nuestro primer álbum en su sótano; a este grabado en su estudio casero profesional. Shane se ha convertido en otro miembro de la banda. Discutimos nuestra visión y él realmente la crea.
Comenzamos a escribir en 2018. Brian vino a practicar con un par de riffs y luego Jake vino con una canción. Lo siguiente que sabes es que ya tenemos 4 canciones. Escribir es realmente fácil para nosotros. Todos hemos sido amigos por un tiempo y sabemos lo que a todos les gusta y lo que no. Tiene que haber compromiso.
4 ¿Qué significa la portada de “CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM”? ¿Y cómo fue el proceso de creación con JONAS DE RO?
Cuando decidimos el concepto del álbum. Nick y yo hablamos sobre lo que teníamos en mente para una tapa. Semanas de enviar fotos de asilos, pinturas de pacientes mentales e ideas de un lado a otro. No queríamos tener una portada de álbum llena de cadáveres o algún monstruo de pantano. Realmente tenía que capturar visualmente al oyente también. Las cubiertas son muy importantes. Una buena tapa puede captar a un oyente sin siquiera escuchar la música. En un par de meses sin éxito y frustrante. Me encuentro con el arte de Jonas DeRO. Encontré su pintura llamada “THE HOUSE OF SPIKES”. Todos sabíamos que era la portada del álbum. Me puse en contacto con Jonas y ni siquiera pensé que respondería.
Un día después, respondió y compramos los derechos del arte.
5 ¿Cuál es el significado del título? ¿Y cuál es el tema del CD?
CATACOMBS OF BEDLAM surgieron cuando se decidió el concepto. Representaba toda la atmósfera del álbum. Todo, desde la música, la obra de arte y el contenido lírico. El título es una representación de todas las víctimas que perdieron la vida dentro de estas instituciones. Los maltratados y olvidados.
La música es oscura, sombría y pesada. Así que quería que el contenido lírico coincidiera con la intensidad de la música. Las instituciones mentales son aterradoras y te dan ese sentimiento de muerte y desesperación. Sentí que sería la mejor letra para el álbum.
6 Cuéntanos cómo están las cosas con la distribución de la prensa con el álbum anterior "PERPETUAL DESCENT", la respuesta de los fanáticos y la prensa extrema, ¿cómo van las cosas en la distribución con el sello LORD OF THE SICK RECORDINGS? ¿Y cómo llegas a las filas de LORD OF THE SICK?
La respuesta fue muy buena. Todo el mundo parecía estar disfrutando de la música que le pusimos. El decente perpetuo era un buen álbum. Creíamos que conseguiría oyentes de la audiencia de death metal de la vieja escuela para las brutales audiencias de death metal. Cuando terminamos de grabar. Nuestra búsqueda de una etiqueta para lanzarlo comenzó. Max del señor de los enfermos nos pidió que le enviáramos una pista. Nos firmó y es nuestro mayor seguidor. Es una locura ver a personas de todo el mundo comprar su CD o llevar su merchandising. Lord of the sick hizo esto posible para nosotros y queremos continuar sacando grandes cosas a través de ellos.
7 2019 fue un buen año en conciertos, ¿cómo fue la experiencia con VITALS REMAINS & NILE ?, STEEL CITY SLAMFEST 2019? ¿Y qué nos puedes contar sobre este 2020, frente a los conciertos?
Los restos vitales siempre son geniales en vivo y para jugar. Nile es una de esas bandas que solo tienes que ir a ver. Hemos tenido suerte y hemos jugado con ellos dos veces. Steel City Slamfest siempre es sorprendente. Disfrutamos no solo jugarlo. Pero, nos encanta armarlo. Es especial presentar la escena a muchas bandas underground. Es posible que hayan escuchado antes o visto en vivo. Cada año se hace más y más grande.
2020 estará ocupado para nosotros. Nos gustaría reservar algunos tours e ir al oeste, definitivamente queremos ir a Europa y Asia. Se agregaron nuevos diseños de merchandising a nuestro sitio. Esperemos comenzar a grabar el próximo álbum.
8 ¿Cómo es la escena de PITTSBURGH, PA?
Pittsburgh tiene una buena escena. A finales de los años 80 y 90 fue más próspero. No estaba sobresaturado con las mismas 6 bandas. La escena del death metal es pequeña. Pero fuerte. Es por eso que Slamfest es importante. Estamos tratando de construir la copia de seguridad de la escena. Apoyándose unos a otros y al subsuelo.
9 Cuéntanos sobre “FOREST OF THE DAMNED”?
Fue lanzado en 2016 y realmente nos puso en el mapa. Así que esté atento a un relanzamiento.
10 ¿Cómo es un concierto POST MORTAL POSSESSION?
Un concierto de PMP es una experiencia en sí mismo. La energía que traemos es adictiva. Las cervezas vuelan y los cuerpos se rompen. Todos la están pasando muy bien. Solo queremos que todos se diviertan y sientan que obtuvieron un gran espectáculo. Nos gusta dar tanto miedo como lo es nuestra música.
11 ¿Cómo es la composición musical?
La mayoría de nosotros practicamos en casa y trabajamos en cosas nuevas. Si tienes algo Lo presentas en la práctica. A partir de su le agregamos o nos transformamos en otros riffs. Creando algo único. Nuestro guitarrista trabaja muy bien juntos y nuestro baterista se adapta a cualquier cosa. Intento captar mis patrones vocales antes de agregar letras. Practicamos onces a la semana durante 2 horas. Pero, cuando nos juntamos, trabajamos sin parar.
12 ¿A qué artistas invito en esta obra musical de POST MORTAL POSSESSION?
Somos una banda muy versátil. Tenemos oyentes a quienes les gusta el death metal de corte limpio o los que aman el slam. Cualquier fanático de la música extrema será fanático.
13 ¿Cómo percibes la escena mundial de BRUTAL DEATH METAL?
Hombre, la escena de BDM todavía está floreciendo. Ha mejorado con los años. Muy agradecido por internet. Realmente ha conectado a mucha gente dentro de la escena, lo que probablemente nunca se hubiera conocido. Intercambiando camisetas, discos compactos y discutiendo viejos y más en los próximos álbumes. Pero, es una de las escenas de mayor apoyo. Realmente he conocido a algunas de las personas más simpáticas de esta escena. Estoy muy feliz de ser parte de esta escena. Siempre continuaré apoyando a mis amigos y al underground.
14 ¿Qué sabes sobre la escena en Colombia?
La escena colombiana siempre ha sido fuerte. Algunas de las bandas más increíbles han salido de Colombia. Algunos de mis favoritos son los Amputated Genitals, Suppuration,Mindly rotten, Carnivore Diprosopus and Melting Flesh.
Sin embargo, PURULENT era el favorito. Leyendas absolutas.

Estamos planeando lanzar un video para uno de nuestro sencillo del nuevo álbum. Una vez que se lanza el álbum. Comenzaremos a reservar tours y más espectáculos. Además, esté atento a la nueva mercancía también.
